What is this Blog?
This is a place where I can document my mini paintings and what I used
for my own future reference. I hope to see how I improve and allow myself so
see where I need to improve. I have left this public so others might be
inspired or may want to critic - which is welcome as long as it is
constructive.

How did I get into Mini Painting?
I have always loved art, even as a small child. I started
with traditional art, especially drawing and watercolours. As I grew I added
more crafts like scrapbooking. When I moved to uni I was introduced to digital
and was given my graphics tablet. It wasnt until I met my husband that I really
was introduced to miniature painting. He was a big 40k fan and with my love of
art he hoped to con me into painting his army. Unfortunately for him I am not a
big fan of Sci-Fi. However I did paint his demon prince - the very first mini I
ever painted. Since then I have painted a few minis but have started getting
serious since we participated in the Reaper Kickstarter. I am still quite new
but I am loving it!
You haven't posted in ages, why not?
This could be for a couple of reasons:
- I have multiple artistic hobbies (photography, digital art, scrapbooking & of course Minis!) I often find myself getting engrossed in one particular hobby to the determent of the others until I find my interest waning for the time being. That said, miniature painting & photography are the 2 that I come back to the most & dont really get out much to take photos. This means that miniatures are my number one hobby
- Of more consequence, I have suffered from Chronic Fatigue & Fibromyalgia for the past 8 years. This means that I am often too tired or sore to sit still & concentrate on painting such small miniatures. I get frustrated with my inability to do those detail work & so I walk away from painting completely for a while. Sometimes it can take me months to get back to a place where I am capable of painting again.
I'm interested in painting, where do I start?
This is a hard question to answer as everyone is different. I love Reaper Miniatures because that have such a variety of high quality minis. Their Bones line is amazing, though detail can be a little soft - they are affordable and need less "prep" than metal.
- Paint brushes
- Paints
- High Density Paints (these are thicker than normal paints & are used for the first layer of paint on the mini)
I use almost exclusively Reaper paints, I do have some Vallejo but for the most part I prefer my MSP (Reaper Paints)
With all that in mind, I suggest looking at Reaper's Learn to Paint Bones Kit. It comes with everything you need & can give you a feel for the hobby without spending too much money.
